The streets in Fougeres
We arrived there on a rainy April day, but that didn’t stop us from seeing the beauty of this place. The town has narrow streets, which aren’t very easy to track on a normalGPSsystem, so it’s better to leave your car on a public parking place and travel by foot. The hotel where we stayed was called Balzac Hotel , had the price of 58 € per night and was within a walking distance from a supermarket and some other shops where you could have something to eat or buy some clothes .Because the streets were so close to each other, our GPS was overwhelmed and we ended up entering the hotel, through the fire escape entrance(I remember thinking before entering this back door-this must be the ugliest hotel entrance ever), to the amusement of the hotel staff.
Wondering through the slim streets of this medieval community, we could admire small beautiful houses( built in Brittany’s style) , a very coquette public garden with a lot of floral arrangements , the Theater Victor Hugo, Saint Leonard Church( situated in the vicinity of the public garden and the city hall) , Saint Sulplice Church, Val Nancon Gardens, a clock museum and of course Fougeres’ most important monument- the fortress.

Parking in Fougeres
As we found out at the reception, there are some restrictions about public parking on the streets , especially during the day, when you might be blocking the access to some shops in the area. So if you want to leave your car parked in front of the hotel, it’s better to announce the staff. Public parking areas can be found in the proximity of Saint Leonard Church, Val Nancon Gardens or close to the castle.
